Steven Soderbergh says he would want to be involved in a Magic Mike sequel but not day to day.
There have been rumours circulating that a sequel to the 2010 film could be in the pipeline.
Earlier this week Channing Tatum revealed that he was trying to get Soderbergh to return to the director's chair for the film but it seems that he may be out of luck.
Speaking to Collider the director said: "There's absolutely another movie to be made out of that.
"There were a lot of ideas that didn't make it to the first one that we've had discussions about, and here's an opportunity to do some of these things that we couldn't get into the first one.
"I hope they do it, I'll help in whatever way I can, I just don't want to be involved day-to-day. But I'm happy to in a sense be an executive producer and kind of weigh in on stuff."
Soderbergh has talked about retiring from directing when he turned fifty - which was list month - and he currently doesn't have any new projects in the pipeline.
He has completed work on Side Effects, which will reunite him with Tatum, and TV film Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.
Magic Mike was a hit when it was released last year but in which direction a possible new film will take it not yet clear.
Matthew McConaughey has already expressed an interest in reprising his role but the project may go on the back burner slightly with Tatum's impending parenthood.
