Steve Carell has revealed that he isn't bothered about being taken seriously as an actor and has never gone out in search of particular roles.
Carell grabbed everyone's attention with comedy roles in the likes of 40 Year Old Virgin and Anchorman, but it is for his latest dramatic performance that he is grabbing all of the attention.
He will be back on the big screen this week in Foxcatcher, which sees him team up with director Bennett Miller for the first time. And while this is a serious and dramatic role for Carell, he is not worried about losing his comedic edge.
Speaking to The Guardian, the actor said: "Not really. To me, they are different styles of entertainment, with different methods.
"I've never cared about being taken seriously - I just see myself as an actor. Most of my career, I've just taken what I've been offered.
"I always feel most comfortable as part of a ensemble. Whether it's a comedy or a drama, I like to fit in. It's best not to stick out."
Foxcatcher has been winning over the critics since it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, and tells the true story of wrestling brother Mark and David Schultz and eccentric billionaire John du Pont - Carell will play du Pont in the film alongside Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo.
Carell has already picked up a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for his central performance, and is expected to be in the Oscar mix when the nominations are revealed next week. Foxcatcher also looks set to be in the Best Picture Oscar race.
However, Carell will be returning to comedy later this year when he stars in Freeheld alongside Julianne Moore and Ellen Page.
Foxcatcher is released 9th January.
