Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the first number one movie in the U.S. of 2016 as it holds onto the top spot.
The movie reached $1 billion in record breaking time and has now grossed in excess of $1.5 billion at the global box office. The film took a further $88.3 million to keep hold of the #1 spot in America.
There was no move for comedy Daddy's Home as it spent a second consecutive week at number two behind Star Wars. The movie sees Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell return to the comedy genre as they reunite on the big screen for the first time since The Other Guys.
The Hateful Eight was the biggest jumper this week as it leapt from ten to round off the top three. The movie marks the return of Quentin Tarantino to the director's chair and has already picked up three Golden Globe nominations.
Sisters and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip were also none-movers this week as they stayed put at four and five.
Joy fell out of the top five this week as the Jennifer Lawrence-led film fell three places from three to number six. The movie sees Lawrence reunite with filmmaker David O.Russell for their third film project together; coming after the success of Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.
The Big Short is being tipped as an awards black horse but the drama/comedy was down one at seven. Concussion, which marks the return of Will Smith to the big screen, also fell one as it kicked off 2016 at number eight.
