It has been a terrific opening week for Spectre and the twenty-fourth Bond film is sitting pretty at the top of the UK box office - breaking a few records in the process.

Spectre

Spectre grossed over £41.2 million in its opening seven days on release - making it the most successful opening week at the UK box office of all time. The title use to belong to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban but after the opening day, it looked like that record was going to be under threat.

More global success is set to come the way of Spectre as it opens in the U.S. this week and looks set to be an even bigger box office hit.

Hotel Transylvania 2 slipped a single place this week as it was toppled from the number spot by Bond. However, it continued to perform well over the half-term holiday as it grossed £2.4 million. The animation sequel has now taken just over £16 million in the UK alone.

Pan was one of the big winners over the holiday as it jumped up three places from last week's number six. Sadly, the movie has struggled globally and has failed to win over the critics.

Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension slipped just a single place this week while Suffragette was down two spots to round off the top five.

The Martian, which continues to dominate the U.S. box office, was this week's biggest faller as the Ridley Scott film slipped from two to number four.

The Last Witch Hunter was also down as it dropped two spots from five to number seven. Live cinema event Tannhauser - Met Opera was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week, as it opened at number eight.

It was also great news for Inside Out this half-term as the Pixar movie shot back into the top ten at number nine. The movie has grossed almost £39 million at the UK box office and over $842 million worldwide.

Crimson Peak rounded off the top ten this week as the Guillermo del Toro film slipped two spots from last week's number eight.
