Following the first trailer for the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, fans were in uproar about how the furry blue video game icon was going to look on the big screen.

Taking the feedback on board, Paramount Pictures pushed the release date for the film back by three months so that they could rework the CGI, and the results are, quite frankly, incredible. Check out the brand new teaser below:

The world's speediest hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) teams up with his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) in the upcoming flick, defending the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) who has his sights set on world domination.

Tika Sumpter and Adam Pally also star in the movie, which is written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, with Jeff Fowler serving as director.

Fowler took to Twitter to tease the release, writing: "Today is the DAY! Could not be more excited to share our new Sonic with you. THANK YOU for your patience and support. This wouldn't have been possible without the fans. #SonicMovie".

The improvements made now allow fans of the SEGA series to enjoy a live-action release which genuinely features the blue blur that many of us grew up taking control of, as he whizzed across hills and took down enemies.
