The start of the development process for the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie may not have been without its huge bumps in the road, but now that the fluffy blue video game hero has had a revamp and looking better than anyone could have imagined, we're hyped for the film's release on Valentine's Day!
To drum up further excitement, a brand new clip showcasing Sonic's cheeky yet infectious personality has been released, as the hedgehog returns to new best friend Tom (James Marsden) after originally plotting to go it alone. Check out the teaser below:
Ben Schwartz is the actor lending his voice to Sonic, whilst Jim Carrey will be stepping into the extremely large shoes of evil genius Dr. Robotnik. Tika Sumpter also stars, with Jeff Fowler serving as director, in what we're expecting to be one of the big surprises of cinema in 2020.
Gamers got their first Sonic the Hedgehog experience back in 1991, when Sega published the original platform title for the Sega Genesis console. Since that point, the anthropomorphic creature has become a household icon, recognisable to countless people across the globe.
Despite becoming a roaring success, this 2020 film release will be the hedgehog's first. An American-Italian television series based on the video game did run for two seasons between 1993 and 1994, but never really gained much traction with fans.
After spending a reported budget of $95 million on the new live-action movie, investors will be hoping to have a blockbuster hit on their hands now that the trigger on making a flick has finally been pulled!
Sonic the Hedgehog is released in the UK nationwide on February 14th, 2020.
