A Gambit solo movie starring Channing Tatum has finally been announced by Fox.
A Gambit movie has been talked about a lot this year, and Tatum is the name that has been linked with the role right from the very beginning. The actor talked about bringing a fresh feel to this character only last month.
How Deadline has revealed that the movie set to go ahead and is based on a treatment by Chris Claremont. Josh Zetumer has been brought on board to turn that treatment into a full screenplay.
No director has yet been announced for the project, but Tatum and Reid Carolin will produce the film alongside Lauren Schuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.
The character of Gambit is expected to make an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse - which will hit the big screen next year - before going on to star in the solo film.
Despite the huge success of the X-Men franchise over the years, Gambit has only appeared in one of the movies; Taylor Kitsch took on the role in X-Men Origin: Wolverine alongside Hugh Jackman. However, there hasn't been a place for the character in the main X-Men franchise.
Work on the X-Men: Apocalypse screenplay is already underway and it has been announced that Bryan Singer will be back in the director's chair. It will be the third film in the 'younger X-Men trilogy' and comes after the success of First Class and Days of Future Past.
James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will all be returning, while Hugh Jackman has also been linked to a role in the film.
As for Tatum, he will be back on the big screen next year in sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending and is currently filming Magic Mike XXL. The movie is the sequel to the 2012 hit and will see Tatum reprise the title role.
Tatum also has Hail, Caesar! in the pipeline and 23 Jump Street is also on the horizon for the actor.
