J.K. Simmons is negotiating the role of an alcoholic detective for 'Terminator: Genesis', which will be released in 2015.

Simmons is negotiating the role of an alcoholic detective who has followed the strange case which involves Sarah - who was originally the Terminator's target - and robots for more than three decades, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Simmons will join Emilia Clarke who portrays Sarah Connor - a character played by Linda Hamilton in the first and second films.

Jason Clarke is playing John Connor, and Jai Courtney has been cast as Kyle Reese, in the Alan Taylor-directed film.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise the role he first played in 1984's 'The Terminator' after he was forced to step down from participating in the franchise while he was the Governor of California between 2003 - 2011.

He recently revealed he's "really looking forward" to working on the film.

The star said: "I'm really looking forward to that because as you know, the last time when they did 'The Terminator' it was when I was governor and so I couldn't be in that movie, but now I'm back again and they are very excited about having me in the film.

"The script is fantastic, so I'm really looking forward to this film."

'Terminator: Genesis' will be released in summer 2015.
