J.K. Simmons will join Mark Wahlberg in 'Patriots' Day'.
Simmons has boarded the cast of the movie, which tells the true story of the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon that rocked America on April 15, 2013.
The film is set to chronicle the events that surrounded the bombing which took place at the finish line of the race, when two pressure cooker bombs exploded.
Peter Berg will direct the drama, in which Simmons will play Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese of the Watertown Police Department, who joined the huge manhunt for suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and distinguished himself in combat after the horrifying terrorist attack.
Wahlberg is playing a composite of various Boston Police Department officers who were central to the case.
Meanwhile, Berg is thrilled to get the veteran actor on board.
He said in a statement: "Beyond his considerable talents, J.K. Simmons is a person who respects the solemn trust that these real-life heroes are putting in our hands. This is an actor who will represent the role in the best way possible."
Simmons won an Oscar in 2015 for 'Whiplash' and spent the rest of the year filming 'The Meddler' with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne, which is due out in April.
