Sigourney Weaver is in talks for a role in 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes'.
The 'Avatar' actress is reportedly in negotiations to join the sequel to upcoming supernatural fantasy flick, 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones', which is due for release next month.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weaver will star alongside franchise stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, Robert Sheehan, Jemima West and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who will all return for the Harald Zwart-directed follow-up film.
It's reported the iconic actress - who is famed for previous roles in 'Alien' and 'Ghostbusters' - will play the ruthless leader of the fictional race of Shadowhunters, who is intent on destroying the man that killed her son.
The sequel continues the story of Clary Fray (Collins), who discovers she is a Shadowhunter and has magical powers. The young protagonist soon finds herself immersed in a world of magic, fairies, vampires and werewolves.
'The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes' is expected to begin filming in October.
The franchise is based on Cassandra Clare's best-selling young adult fantasy novels - five of which have already been published, with a sixth due for release in 2014.
