Scream (1996) is one of the most iconic horror movies ever made. The combination of self-awareness and the perfect cast and crew has carried it through the decades and cemented it as a high bar for the horror genre. Now, as 2022 approaches, so does a very familiar face...
The trailer for the thrilling new addition to the Scream franchise came out just three weeks ago on October 12th, 2021, and yesterday (November 4th, 2021) marks the release of a new featurette for the movie, including new film footage and soundbites from both the cast and executive producer, Kevin Williamson.
The trailer for 2022’s Scream is a masterpiece within itself. It has recreated the outstanding first scene from the 1996 movie, but put a modern twist on it that only adds to the horror and mystery and fear.
“Ghostface is back,” States Courtney Cox, who has played Gale Weathers since the original movie, “and is as scary as ever”.
In the recently released featurette, Cox, along with other stars of the movie and the executive producer, share their thoughts on the franchise’s newest entry.
“Now is the time to make a new Scream,” says Williamson, “because we had a special story to tell that connects the legacy and cast members with a new cast into the world of Woodsboro.”
New cast members, such as Melissa Barrera, who plays Sam Carpenter, share their feelings about their characters and how much they adore their new roles. The original cast also have such a strong love for the characters they’ve been playing since 1996.
Neve Campbell is back in her iconic role as Sidney Prescott, the first person to be at the centre of Ghostface’s mad killings.
The featurette really shows how much every actor adores the franchise, as well as highlighting just how unique this series of movies are. There are so many things that make a film unforgettable, and the Scream franchise knows exactly how to hold its audience, and those who work towards the final product.
The beauty of this franchise is still shining through, clear as day; Ghostface is more of an idea, more of an event that happens to you rather than a person. Many people have worn the black and white mask, and someone else will be covering up for the 2022 release of Scream.
Scream will be in cinemas on January 14th, 2022.
