Sandra Bullock says she felt excited by Gravity because her role of Dr Ryan Stone could so easily have been cast as a man.
The actress was on the red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival earlier this week to help promote the new science fiction film.
Gravity has already been whipping up a storm on the festival circuit, while Bullock's performance has also been heavily praised.
Speaking on the red carpet Bullock said that the project was exciting because she felt like she was part of something that had never been done before.
The movie sees Bullock team up with filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron for the first time as he returns to the director's chair for the first time since Children of Men.
2013 has already been a great year for Bullock having enjoyed success this summer with The Heat.
Gravity is a film that is already being tipped as a major Oscar contender and could well be the early favourite for the Best Picture gong.
Gravity is released 8th November.
