Sam Mendes felt that he had 'unfinished business' with the Bond franchise and that is why he has returned to the director's chair for Spectre.
Mendes was in London earlier this week as it was announced that Spectre was set to be the title of the highly anticipated 24th Bond movie, which is set to his the big screen next year.
This will be the second consecutive Bond film for Mendes, after he helmed Skyfall to a billion dollar success back in 2012. At one point it looked like Mendes would not be returning to the director's chair but he is ready to explore these characters further.
Speaking to the BBC, the director said: "I felt an attachment to the characters that we created in 'Skyfall'.
"I felt like there was unfinished business, and that there was a lot more I could do with them once I'd kind of stepped aside and had some time off."
Spectre will sees Mendes reunite with Daniel Craig, as he returns to the role of James Bond for the fourth time.
It was also revealed this week that Spectre would film in London, Rome, Mexico City, Tangier and Erfoud in Morocco, and Sölden, Obertilliach and Lake Altausee in Austria.
Mendes continued: "A lot of the last movie was shot in and around London, which I loved, but there's a limited amount of stuff you can shoot in London, and I feel this has more mischief in it, perhaps, a little bit more of the unexpected. But it also does relate back to 'Skyfall' in many ways."
Filming on Spectre is set to get underway next week and will be the first time that Mendes has returned to the director's chair since Skyfall.
Spectre will also star Christoph Waltz, ave Bautista, Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux, and Andrew Scott, while Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, and Naomie Harris are back.
Spectre is released 6th November 2015.
