Sam Mendes has spoken about Bond 24, saying that it will be the second part of a two part story.
Mendes is back in the director’s chair for the highly anticipated follow-up to Skyfall, which will be his second time directing a film in the franchise.
At first, it was believed that Mendes would not be returning for a second film, but was then announced as the director a few months later. Mendes revealed why he chose to return.
Speaking on The Charlie Rose Show, the director said: "I started a number of stories that were incomplete. I cast a new M, I cast a new Moneypenny, I cast a new Q, I cast a new Tanner," he explained.
The director continued: "There was a missing piece now. I felt like there was a way to create the second part of a two-part story."
Bond 24 will mark the third film that Mendes has worked on with Daniel Craig: the other two being Skyfall and Road to Perdition.
This movie will be Craig’s fourth outing as 007, after leading the franchise to success with Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall.
Skyfall went on to become the most successful Bond movie of all time in 2012, when it franchise broke the $1 billion barrier for the very first time.
John Logan is also returning to pen the screenplay, while Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris are expected to reprise the role of M, Q and Miss Moneypenny.
There have been no new names officially added to the cast list, but Penelope Cruz and Chiwetel Ejiofor have been linked to the film.
Filming is due to get underway at the end of the year. Bond 24 will hit screen on 23rd October 2015.
