Ryan Gosling says he is looking forward to directing because he thinks he is doing too much acting.
The Oscar nominated actor is set to begin work on his directorial debut How to Catch A Monster later this year - he also penned the screenplay for the film.
And Gosling admits that he is looking forward to the break from being in front of the camera.
Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I've been doing it too much," he said of acting.
"I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it.
"And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."
Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Matt Smith and Ben Mendelsohn are all on the cast list for the film - which will be released next year.
We will be seeing Gosling back on the big screen this year as The Place Beyond The Pine and Only God Forgives are two of the highly anticipated projects he is set to star in.
The actor has also completed work on an as yet untitled Terrence Malick movie.
