Russell Crowe has revealed that he trained hard for Man of Steel when he realised that he was going to be wearing a Spandex costume.
The Oscar winner is back on the big screen next week as he takes on the role of Jor-El in Man of Steel.
Crowe admits that he has not trained this hard for a movie since he working on boxing film Cinderella Man.
Speaking to Access Hollywood the actor said: "When I signed on... well, one, I didn't realise that I would be wearing Spandex - because you know that's Superman's costume. I didn't realise that I'd have to fit into it as well.
"But, I also didn't realise the type of organiser that Zack Snyder is, because this was really old school prep. I was on the movie for three-and-a-half or four months before I even got in front of the camera."
"(My training routine) was massive. It was probably not since Cinderella Man, and prior to that, Gladiator, I suppose. It was really intense."
Crowe plays Clark Kent's real father in the film alongside Henry Cavill, who is taking over the role of Superman.
It has already been a successful year for Crowe with the release of musical Les Miserables and Broken City.
He has already completed work on Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah, in which he will take on the title role.
Man of Steel is released 14th June.
