Rosamund Pike is in talks to join the cast of new western film 'Hostiles'.
According to Variety, the 37-year-old actress is to play a young widow whose family is murdered on the American plains opposite Bale who will portray a legendary Army captain who agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands.
Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape and hostile Comanche tribes that they encounter along the way.
Scott Cooper will direct the film, which is set in 1892 in the Wild West.
'Gone Girl' star Pike was reportedly chosen for the role after the director saw her appearance in Massive Attack's music video for 'Voodoo in My Blood'.
Cooper will be making the movie with 'Black Mass' producer John Lesher and Ken Kao, who is also financing the picture through Waypoint Entertainment.
Production on 'Hostiles' is scheduled to begin in July.
