Ron Howard has described Rush as an ‘international coming out party’ for actor Daniel Bruhl.
Howard was on the red carpet at the Baftas last night as Rush was nominated for a string of awards, including Best British Film and a Best Supporting Actor nod for Bruhl.
Speaking exclusively to FemaleFirst on the red carpet, the director said: “I am really pleased. For Daniel it has been an international coming out party; a lot of people had known what a great actor he was, but the whole world hadn’t.
“Chris Hemsworth has already been able to prove that he is great in an action movie - he is the perfect Thor - but you can look to him for a lot more interesting characters down the road; he is going to have a rich and long career.”
Howard returned to the director’s chair for Rush last year: a project that saw him team up with both Bruhl and Hemsworth for the first time.
Bruhl and Hemsworth took on the role of F1 drivers Nikki Lauda and James Hunt, as they movie chronicled their famous rivalry.
“I love helping actors with a real challenge. We were working a very quick pace, and so it was important that the focus was there and the creative courage was there.
“Neither of these guys could apply vanity to their roles, because they were creating these character warts and all. It was very satisfying work as every day we were getting some really interesting scenes done.”
Rush ad Bruhl missed out in the Best British Film and Supporting Actor categories, but there was success for Dan Hanley and Mike Hill as they scooped the award for Editing.
