Ron Howard says The Jungle Book is a 'wonderful script'.
Howard has been linked to the director's chair for an a film that is based on the Rudyard Kipling novel.
However, Howard says that he is in very early discussions about the project and nothing is set in stone.
Speaking in his press conference at the Baftas, the director said: "Frankly, this has been prematurely released as a given. I am happy to admit that we are in conversation about it; up to the point where I have brought my Kipling along with me to do a little research.
"It is a wonderful script and an exciting prospect. But we are very early in discussions."
Howard attended the Baftas at the weekend where Rush was nominated for Best British Film.
Howard has already completed work on Heart of the Sea, a project that will see him reunite with Chris Hemsworth.
The movie is an adaptation of the novel In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick, and will also star Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson.
Heart of the Sea is released 13th march 2015.
