Will Robert Downey Jr returning to the Iron Man franchise? Kevin Feige says it is something that won't have to be faced until after the release of Avengers 3.
Robert Downey Jr was signed on to make four appearances as Iron Man in three stand alone movies as well as Avengers Assemble: a contract that expired with the release of Iron Man 3 earlier this year.
But Downey Jr will be reprising the role of Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron, that begins filming at the beginning of next year.
When asked about the Iron Man franchise and Robert Downey Jr's involvements, Feige told Reviewer.fr: "Well, if I believe Tony Stark to be James Bond, then there would be and Iron Man 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9... What is James Bond on at? Twenty?"
"[Robert Downey Jr.'s return] is the question. And again, that's a question we won't have to face until after Avengers 3. So that's at least five or six years away."
Iron Man 3 remains the biggest grossing movie of the year as it has grossed over $1 billion at the global box office by the end of its theatrical run: following in the footsteps of Avengers Assemble.
Iron Man 3 kicked off Phase Two of Marvel films: Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Solider and Guardians of the Galaxy will follow. Avengers: Age of Ultron will bring Phase Two to a close in the summer of 2015.
