Robert Downey Jr says he is interested in reprising the role of Tony Stark in future Iron Man movies.
The actor revealed that he would return to the role tomorrow if he could but admits that there are other projects out there that he wants to sink his teeth into.
Downey Jr revealed that he would love to be at the heart of another franchise away from his role as Iron Man.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly the actor said: "I'd go start another one tomorrow, but it's not tomorrow. And there are a lot of other considerations.
"But I also don't like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch.
"My intent is to launch another franchise, independent of any that I can even imagine right now. My intent is to dominate the playing field for as long as I can, with my own challenges, with myself."
Rumours about the future of Downey Jr in the role of Iron Man have been floating around since Iron Man 3 hit the big screen as the movie marked the end of his contract.
Iron Man 3 has been a colossal box office success as it has broken $1 billion in the three weeks it has been on release and is currently the ninth biggest grossing movie of all time.
But before Downey Jr decides on whether or not he will return for a fourth Iron Man film there is his appearance in Avengers 2 to consider.
Filming on Avengers 2 is scheduled to get underway at the beginning of next year and no cast members have been officially confirmed for the film.
Iron Man 3 is out now.
