Zellweger is set to take on the role of Bridget Jones for the third film in Bridget Jones's Baby, where she is pregnant and unsure who the father is... is it Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) or is it new character Mark Qwant (Patrick Dempsey)?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actress said it felt so right to tell this story at this time in Bridge's life. She said: "This is part of the new challenge, discovering where she is now in her new life. But as an actress, it feels like stepping back with an old friend.

"I love this character, I like that she tells stories about what it's like to be a woman and these really relatable situations at certain times in life. It's so right to tell a story about Bridget in this stage of her life."

It was back in 2001 when Zellweger took on this role for the first time in Bridget Jones's Diary, a role that was to earn her a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

She reprised the role in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2004 and fans have had to wait over a decade for a third film, which is due to be released next year.

The movie sees Sharon Maguire - who directed the first film - back in the director's chair as she reunites with Zellweger.

Zellweger, Firth, and Dempsey are joined on the cast list by Jim Broadbent, Celia Imrie, Gemma Jones, and Sally Phillips.

We are going to be seeing plenty of Zellweger on the big screen next year as she has also completed work on Same Kind of Different as Me and The Whole Truth.

Bridget Jones's Baby is released 22nd April 2016.
