Spall is set to return to the big screen this weekend as he stars alongside Jim Broadbent and Warwick Davis in festive film Get Santa, and the actors says it is great that his children are going to be able to enjoy something that he has worked on.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said: "There's not many times in your life when you can say that you've flown a sleigh, that's a real thrill. Knowing that my kids are going to be able to watch this film and being able to finally do a film that is appropriate for my children to watch is a really nice thing, because most of my body of work isn't."

"Knowing that not only will they be able to watch it this Christmas, but many Christmases to come, that's the lovely thing about Christmas films is that they sustain, they're always there for you, and they're one of the things that get you in the mood for Christmas, so that was really lovely."

Get Santa marks the return of filmmaker and writer Christopher Smith to the director's chair as he tackles the Christmas movie for the first time. Smith is best known for his horror film, and has been behind movies such as Severance, Creep and Black Death.

A terrific cast has been assembled as Spall, Davis, and Broadbent are joined by Nonso Anozie, Stephen Graham, Jodie Whittaker, Ewen Bremner, Matt King, and Joanna Scanlan for this festive treat.

A father and son who team up to save Christmas once they discover Santa Claus sleeping in their garage after crashing his sleigh and finding himself on the run from the police.

Spall is the father to two children, Lena and Rex with wife actress Elize du Toit. The couple married in the summer of 2010, and Lena was born in 2011 and Rex a year later in 2012.

Spall has already enjoyed success this year with the likes of X+Y and What If under his belt and has already completed work on TV minis series Sons of Liberty.

Get Santa is released 5th December.
