Raking in big bucks at the US box office following its release, the rebooted Power Rangers movie is clearly going to be one of the year’s biggest successes. Now, those behind the flick are looking to the future, with Red Ranger actor Dacre Montgomery speaking about the addition of a Green Ranger to a sequel.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor revealed: "A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even three girls, three boys."

Then chatting about the post-credits scene for the new movie, which sees a teacher call out the name 'Tommy Oliver', aka the original Green Ranger, he added: "It's left blank. It's a cliffhanger. Whoever you're going to drop into that position - whether it's a girl, it's inevitably going to create drama. It'll be interesting to drop that drama into it and see how we all relate to it and work with it."

It’s good to know that those who have worked on Power Rangers are all so intent on bringing an equality-focused team to modern-day fans of the franchise. Having already introduced the world’s first big screen LGBT community superhero through the movie’s Yellow Ranger, and with Blue Ranger Billy living with autism in the flick, it’s clear creators aren’t afraid to push against any boundaries that may have been in their way just a few years back.

Though there have been a couple of Green Ranger female variants in the past (Green Chameleon Warrior and Prism Green Ranger), the character is predominantly one played by a male, so to see such a shake-up would be refreshing. Power Rangers is out now in cinemas and IMAX across the UK.
