Pollyanna McIntosh says it was the strong female lead character was one of the things that drew her to White Settlers.
McIntosh has returned to the horror genre this weekend with White Settlers, as she teams up with director Simeon Halligan and Lee Williams.
And the actress reveals that there were many things that drew her to the project.
Speaking exclusively to FemaleFirst, she said: "Being a Scot it was a pleasure to read something set in Scotland from a Scottish writer so that was intriguing before I'd even opened the script.
"Then I did read it, at night, and I couldn't put it down. Nor could I get to sleep afterwards. A strong female lead is always appealing and Sarah is a little different to the sort of women I am expected to play so yes, that helped.
"Lastly, I admired the DP, the producer and Simeon (the director) 's passion for the project."
McIntosh grabbed everyone's attention when she took on the title role in The Woman back in 2011. Since then we have seen her movies such as Filth and TV series M.I High.
The actress has also completed work on Prevertere, which sees her switch horror for comedy.
White Settlers is out now.
