Peter Jackson has described The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies as a 'psychological thriller'.
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies is set to hit the big screen in December and is the third and final instalment of the trilogy.
Jackson will return to the director's chair for one final time, and hints that this final film is different to An Unexpected Journey & The Desolation of Smaug.
Speaking to Empire, the director said: This one has got more of a thriller feel to it. I think of this third movie as a psychological thriller with action scenes interspersed in the middle of it.
"It has got a very tight narrative structure. Three hour movies don't tend to be thrillers."
The Battle of Five Armies comes twelve months since the success of The Desolation of Smaug, and is the first film for Jackson since the second The Hobbit movie.
Both instalments have been hugely successful at the box office: An Unexpected Journey broke the $1 billion barrier, while Desolation of Smaug fell just short with $958 million.
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies is released 12the December.
