Paddington has toppled The Hunger Games: Mockingbird - Part 1 from the top of the UK box office after a terrific opening weekend for the Paul King directed film.
Paddington is based on the books by Michael Bond and has been brought to the big screen for the first time with a mix of live action and CGI. Ben Whishaw voices the title character, while Nicole Kidman, Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville, and Peter Capaldi are just some of the great names on the cast list.
The movie too £5.1 million in its opening weekend to topple Mockingjay - Part 1 from the top of the UK box office after just a week in the #1 spot. The third film in The Hunger Games series fell just a single place to number two, taking £4.9 million over the weekend.
The Imitation Game was also down one this week as it slipped from two to three, while Horrible Bosses 2 was new in at four. Interstellar wrapped up the top five, slipping two places from last week’s number three.
Nativity 3: Dude Where’s My Donkey? Was down two places from four to six, while Frozen re-entered the top ten as it is being shown again in cinemas on the lead up to the festive season. The movie was a box office smash this time last year, and is still proving to be a big drawn at the box office.
Hockney was the fourth and final new entry inside the top ten at eight, while Mr Turner was down four places from five to nine: it was this week’s biggest faller. The Drop was down three places this week as it rounded off the top ten.
