Orlando Bloom was "concerned" about bringing back his 'Lord of the Rings' character in 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug'.
The actor is set to reprise his role as expert archer Legolas - who appeared in Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy - in the second of Jackson's prequel films later this year, however, Bloom admits he had his reservations about returning to the fantasy franchise.
He said: "I was concerned a little bit, how to justify Legolas' return. But Peter, Fran [Walsh] and Philippa [Boyens] were very clear about how it would work. It feels authentic, you know?"
Bloom's concern stems from the fact that dreamy Legolas - who became a screen heartthrob because of his long blonde locks and blue eyes - isn't mentioned in author J.R.R. Tolkein's 'The Hobbit' book, which serves as a precursor to his masterpiece 'Lord of the Rings' novels.
Meanwhile, Jackson - who is helming all three parts of 'The Hobbit' trilogy - has revealed the second chapter in the movie series will be less humorous than last year's 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'.
He explained to Empire magazine: "This has less humour in it for sure. The first film was where we allowed ourselves to try and capture something of the children's book, but it is really not appropriate to do that anymore.
"Some pretty serious stuff is going down and it is important that we don't undercut that now."
