This week, the news has been building up and overflowing as there is so much going on in the world of cinema. Another of Stephen King’s novels is getting an adaptation, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has hit another snag, and the trailer for 2022’s Scream movie has a limited audience... Check all this out, and more, below!

Venom 2 beats Shang-Chi at the Box Office
Venom: Let There Be Carnage release this past Thursday (30th September, 2021), and is already a huge hit, beating Marvel’s highly anticipated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Fast 9 on its opening night.
The sequel follows on from 2018’s Venom, with Tom Hardy in the role of Eddie Brock. The new release sees the unlikely duo battle against Cletus Kasaday’s (Woody Harrelson) symbiote, Carnage.
On its opening night, Venom 2 grossed $11.6 million, beating Shang-Chi which made $8.8 on its release day.
Despite reviews for this sequel being mixed, it seems many prefer it to its predecessor, so perhaps there is potential for a third movie after all.
IT star has been cast in Stephen King adaptation
Stephen King is well-known for his immense talent for writing horror, shown by not just his sales, but by how many of his books have been made into movies; Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is the next book to get the Hollywood treatment.
Jaeden Martell, who played the young version of Bill Denbrough in King’s IT (2017), along with Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games), have both been cast in starring roles for this exciting new adaptation.
The movie comes from King’s four-part book series titled If It Bleeds. The book follows young Craig who is hired by Mr. Harrigan, but after the purchase of an iPhone and the death of his employer, Craig receives as disturbing message...
The movie has a scheduled 2022 Netflix release date.
Sister Act 3 to be directed by High School Musical series creator
Tim Federle, creator of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is set to direct the third instillation of cult classic series, Sister Act 3.
Sister Act became an adored movie after its release in 1992, putting leading lady Whoopi Goldberg in the spotlight. In 2018, Disney teased that Goldberg would be reprising her iconic role for Sister Act 3 on Disney+.
No plot details are available yet, but after fans begged for a second movie, there is a high chance the threequel will be a hit with audiences.
Scarlett Johansson’s Tower of Terror film still in development
Despite the months-long war between Marvel actor Scarlett Johansson and Disney, her Tower of Terror movie (which she will be producing) is still set to go ahead, after the two settled their differences.
The Tower of Terror is a Disney theme park ride which opened in 1994, and became a huge success; in 1997, a made for TV film based on the ride was produced and starred Steve Guttenberg and Kristen Dunst.
In June this year (2021), Disney announced that a new movie based on the Tower of Terror ride would be releasing, with Johansson both starring and producing.
It is likely that Tower of Terror will be a cinematic release rather than a Disney+ original; many fans (as well as those involved) are happy to see the end of the disagreement that followed after Disney broke Johansson’s contract regarding Black Widow. It will, however, be great to see the movie worked on by both parties.
Scream 2022 trailer will only be seen at a special screening
Those lucky enough to attend the special screening of Scream in London on October 11th will be the only ones to witness the trailer for the 2022 sequel.
Despite 2011 appearing to be the year we bid farewell to the iconic horror franchise with Scream 4, it isn’t over yet as January 2022 will see a new killer as well as some old faces.
The fifth instalment, simply titled Scream, has been an on and off production for some time now, but this past year saw things get moving once again. The upcoming film is said to focus on a young woman who returns to her hometown, only to be met with murders tied to Ghostface.
With Courtney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell making return, it seems 2022’s Scream will be a very popular sequel.
Apple Films wins bidding war for Clooney and Pitt thriller
Apple Original Films has won the fierce bidding war for John Watts’ new thriller, starring Oscar-winners Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
Pitt and Clooney have worked together numerous times, the last time being for Burn After Reading in 2008; after such a long time apart, it will be great to see two of Hollywood’s most popular actors back together for a thrilling adventure.
Apple Films beat various other companies for ownership of this untitled project, including Sony, Lionsgate, Netflix, Amazon, as well as Universal and Warner Bros.
While all that’s known about the feature this far is that it involves two solitary characters assigned to the same job, but hopefully more will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Five Nights at Freddy’s film loses its director
Jason Blum, producer for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, has recently announced that the project has lost its director, Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire), and still doesn’t have the right script.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a popular video game franchise created by Scott Cawthon. In the first game of the same name, released in 2014, players are a security guard working the 12am to 6am shift; all the while, the Chuck E Cheese-like animatronics roam the hallways.
Cawthon has supposedly rejected nine different drafts of the script, so it seems the movie will take a while to get here. However, a film was released this year (2021) called Willy’s Wonderland starring Nicolas Cage with pretty much the same premise; this might scratch your itch in the meantime.
