Octavia Spencer "hopes" 'Hidden Figures' will make a difference in the future.
The 46-year-old actress was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Dorothy Vaughan in the biographical drama which follows the story of African American female mathematicians who worked for NASA during the Space Race.
Octavia is "glad" the story - which is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly - is being told, as she believes it will greatly improve "inclusion".
Asked if she believes the movie will make a difference in the near future, she said: "You know, exactly, one could hope. I am just glad that the story is being told. The more we tell stories that haven't been told, the more we allow for inclusion."
And Octavia is "thrilled" with how well the movie - which was nominated for a total of three Oscars, two Golden Globes, and took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture - has been received.
When asked by ScreenRant.com if the excitement has been wearing her down, Octavia said: "No. I'm pretty thrilled. I'm just taking one day at a time and riding this crazy emotional rollercoaster. It's a pretty fun ride."
Meanwhile, Octavia's co-star Kirsten Dunst recently heaped praise onto the entire cast and crew for the movie, highlighting the brunette beauty in particular as someone she "loved" working with.
She said at the Oscars ceremony last week: "I'm just so proud of the film and my fellow cast members, and the director [Theodore Melfi].
"It's a really fun group of people and I just loved working with Octavia. We live around the corner from each other, too!
"It's nice to celebrate with good people who are also talented."
