Noomi Rapace has landed a role in new science fiction thriller Rupture.
Rapace - who is best known for her roles in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Prometheus - will return to the sci-fi genre having landed the lead role in this new film.
The movie will see Steven Shainberg back in the director's chair for the first time since Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus back in 2007.
Shainberg and Brian Nelson are behind the story, but it is Nelson who has penned the screenplay for the film. Andrea Iervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi are teaming up with Andrew Lazar to produce the film.
While little has been given away about the plot, but Rapace is set to play a single mother who, struggling to raise her son alone, is abducted by a mysterious organization. While trying to escape, she uncovers an extraordinary secret about herself.
Rapace is the only cast member to have been announced so far. Filming will get underway in June.
Rapace is set to return to the big screen this week as she stars in the adaptation of the Tom Rob Smith novel Child 44. The movie sees Daniel Espinosa in the director's chair, while Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman join Rapace on the cast list. Child 44 will mark the second time that Rapace has worked with Hardy; the paired starred together in The Drop last year.
Rapace has also completed work on Unlocked, an action thriller that will see Michael Apted in the director's chair. Orlando Bloom and Michael Douglas are also on the cast list.
