This is the third time those who have worked on the 25th instalment in the James Bond film series have decided to push back No Time To Die, due to the effects on cinema-going caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
At this point, we think they’d be better to tag the movie with the line ‘coming soon’ again, rather than giving a solid date.
Still, the official website for the film now says that it will be coming to the big screen on October 8th, 2021. We won’t hold our breath…
It’s completely understandable when you hear the reasoning behind the delay. No Time To Die could be the film release that helps save cinema from the brink of destruction, once we’re all allowed back into those glossy back chairs.
Earlier on in the week, filmmakers such as Sir Steve McQueen and Danny Boyle wrote to the government and asked for financial support for cinema chains. They said that British cinema stood "on the edge of an abyss", and with their prolonged closure, it's hard to deny.
Still, the fans who have been waiting almost a full six years since the release of Spectre will likely be disappointed by the news; especially when they’ve seen other major movies such as Wonder Woman 1984 and Disney Pixar’s Soul released straight to on-demand and pay-per-view.
Daniel Craig will feature for the final time in the lead role as James Bond, with Rami Malek stepping into the shoes of our mysterious villain, Safin.
Not much has been revealed about Malek’s character other than a thirst for death and destruction in an attempt to “eradicate people to make the world a better place.” In clips we’ve seen, Safin has even compared himself to Bond, albeit admitting he wants to be a little “tidier” with his murders.
We've also been given a look at Lashana Lynch's role in the film as Nomi, a new '00' agent who has been assigned the 007 number following Bond's retirement. Watch out for those fragile fanboys; she’s both a woman and black. They’re going to choke on their popcorn.
Further co-stars include Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Jeffrey Wright.
For now, No Time To Die will come to cinemas across the UK on October 8th, 2021. Still, further incompetence by the government may see that date changed once again…
