Nicolas Cage is not a film "snob".
The 49-year-old actor - who has a seven-year-old son Kal-El with his wife Alice Kim and a grown-up son Weston, 22, with his ex-lover Christina Fulton - enjoys making family films so he can create something that will unite parents with their children and "entertain" the family.
He said: "I think it's important to entertain families. It gives families something to do with their children. Where the adults can also be entertained. I enjoyed making 'The Croods'. But I like that ritual, that celebration. That kids are going to a movie and their mother's going to laugh too and were going to get popcorn.
"There's creativity going into making those movies. I'm not a snob, if you can tell."
His career and his family are the two things that drive Cage, who describes himself as a "working dog" that gets hyperactive if he does not have anything to do.
During an appearance on UK TV show 'This Morning', he added:
"I'm a working dog. If you have a Doberman and you don't work your dog it gets hyperactive. I'm like that. I got to work. I enjoy it. My family is sacred to me and my work is sacred to me."
