Michael Caine is one of the greatest British actors of all time and he is set to return to the big screen in January with his new film Youth.

Youth

The actor may talk about retiring, but it is in as great a demand now as ever and I always look forward to seeing his work as he has been in some great movies and delivered some wonderful performances over the years.

Youth sees the actor team up with filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino for the first time as he returns to the director's chair for what is his first feature film since The Great Beauty back in 2013. As well as being in the director's chair, Sorrentino has also penned the film's screenplay.

Youth is a movie that is already whipping up a storm with the critics and the brand new trailer for the film has been unveiled:

Caine is set to take on the role of Fred Ballinger, a retired orchestra conductor, as he leads an all-star cast that includes Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano, and Jane Fonda.

Springtime. Fred (Caine) and Mick (Keitel), two old friends now approaching eighty, are on vacation together in an elegant hotel at the foot of the Alps. Fred, a composer and conductor, is now retired. Mick, a film director, is still working. The two friends know that their time is quickly running out, and they decide to face their future together.

They look with curiosity and tenderness on their children's confused lives, Mick's enthusiastic young writers, and the other hotel guests, all of whom, it seems, have all the time that they lack. And while Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film, Fred, who gave up his musical career long ago, has no intention of returning to it. But someone wants at all costs to hear his compositions and to see him conduct again.

Youth has already won Best Film, Best Actor (Caine), and Best Director (Sorrentino) at the European Film Awards and has picked up Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress (Fonda) and Best Original Song. It is promising to be a drama that's not to be missed this January.

Youth is released 29th January 2016.
