The new trailer for drama Blue Bayou has landed, and it already looks to be a heart-warming and saddening tale of a family man who faces deportation.
From award-winning writer and director Justin Chon, comes a story of a uniquely American family who, when faced with an awful challenge, must fight against adversity for not only their future, but their right to stay together.
Antonio LeBlanc (Chon) is a Korean-born man, who was adopted at a young age and brought to America when he was just three years old. The following 30 years led him to become a true American citizen, a husband, and a father.
Married to the love of his life, Kathy (Alicia Vikander), step-father to her wonderful daughter, and soon-to-be father of another child, Antonio must prove his worth to stay in America and battle against being deported and taken from his family.
Award-winning actress Vikander has starred in some excellent films, including Ex Machina (2015) and Tomb Raider (2018), and was outstanding in both; there is no doubt she will play the role of Kathy brilliantly.
The trailer shows Antonio and Kathy’s life to be beautiful and deep, and the love they share is charming; their daughter is a happy and carefree child, who seems to be in love with Antonio and adores him being her father.
We see the family accosted in a store, as police officers see Antonio and decide that he isn’t American and arrest him in front of his wife and child. The officers who arrest him are both white men, showing the racial segregation that can occur within the American police force.
As our main character battles to stay with his family, his criminal past is brought up and it doesn’t paint him in a positive light. Despite what seems to be a history in street racing, or something more serious, Antonio must face his past in order to be granted the life he wants to continue.
The movie is already set to be a tense and unforgiving story, as a man who has worked hard to provide for his family and keep them safe, happy and loved might receive a harsh and underserved punishment.
Blue Bayou will be coming to cinemas soon.
