Earlier this week, the brilliant new trailer for upcoming film Darkest Hour dropped, allowing a closer look into the movie which will delve deeply into the life of Winston Churchill during his time as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. You can see the new trailer below:
Having spent just a few days as Prime Minister, Winston Churchill was faced with one of his most challenging times in office; exploring whether he should agree to the negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or stand firm and fight for the ideals and freedom of an entire nation.
Not only putting himself on the line, he quickly realised that an entire country may fall based on the decision he made, but with the Nazi forces rolling out quickly across Western Europe and the threat of invasion on British soil, he had to make his choice quickly.
Facing a public that weren’t prepared for everything that was happening, along with a sceptical King who wasn’t entirely sure Churchill could get the job done, the Prime Minister had to navigate a Conservative Party also plotting to take him down. In his true darkest hour, he would be faced with rallying the nation and changing the course of world history before it was too late.
Dramatic and inspiring, the film is of course based on the real events that transpired in a four week period back in 1940.
Gary Oldman stars in the leading role as Winston Churchill, with the all-star cast of Darkest Hour rounded out with Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James, Stephen Dillane, Ronald Pickup and Ben Mendelsohn.
Joe Wright (Atonement, Hannah, Pride & Prejudice) directs from a screenplay written by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything). Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Anthony McCarten, Lisa Bruce and Douglas Urbanski all serve as producers.
Darkest Hour comes to cinemas across the UK on January 12, 2018.
