A trailer has been released for King Richard, starring Will Smith as a father who is underestimated at every turn but will prove that his family is stronger than everyone thinks.
Smith (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Bad Boys franchise, Ali) stars in the titular role as Richard Williams, in this story about determination and family love.
Smith is a fantastic actor, and will no doubt bring a level of unique realism to this story; he has done comedy, action and drama, and King Richard will be all the better for Smith’s presence.
This story is set to inspire the world, as a father who is underestimated and spoken badly about, is raising two unique and gifted athletes who will go on to be world-famous for their skills in tennis.
Richard, armed with a sensational vision of his daughters’ futures and the potential to use unconventional methods, creates a plan that will take Venus and Serena Williams from Compton’s streets in California, to a global and recognisable stage, turning them into idols and icons.
King Richard is shaping up to be a moving, charming and tense account of a father’s love and what he would do to get his children out of Compton and into the eyes and minds of the whole world.
The movie will appear to showcase the power of love, family, dedication and perseverance, as well as an unmoving belief to achieve the impossible and change the world.
Some films based on true stories can be a let-down, as it may not stay true to its muse. However, King Richard seems like the perfect movie that will showcase the Williams sisters and their journey to stardom through pure talent and tenacity.
The inspiring trailer for this movie is only a short look into the long journey the sisters took to get to where they are today, seemingly due to not just their talents and willpower, but also as a result of their father’s plan for them both.
The trailer shows that the family has its hardships, and that the Williams sisters’ battle to be the best proves that anyone can be anything, no matter where you come from or who you are.
As well as Smith, the cast includes Saniyaa Sidney (Hidden Figures, Fences) as Venus Williams, Demi Singleton (TV’s Godfather of Harlem) is Serena Williams, with Tony Goldwyn (Divergent series) as coach Paul Cohen and Jon Bernthal (Netflix’s The Punisher, Ford v Ferrari) as coach Rick Macci.
King Richard will be in cinemas November 19th, 2021.
