Just yesterday (October 12th, 2021), Paramount Pictures released not only first look images and a poster for Scream (2022), but a trailer, too.
See the poster for Scream below:
The Scream franchise is one of the most iconic in horror, and since 1996 when the first film was released, fans of the genre have clung to every sequel that followed the original. However, with news of a fifth film, horror fans are, quite frankly, losing their minds.
Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has been plagued by the murderous Ghostface for most of her life, and it seems that a new killer has taken on the mantle of the ghoulish killer.
The upcoming feature takes place 25 years after a series of gruesome murders shocked and terrified the otherwise quiet town of Woodsboro; a new killer now wears the iconic Ghostface mask, and sets their eyes on a group of teenagers in order to unearth secrets from the town’s deadly past.
Scream will see a number of returning characters, including Sidney, as well as Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette). New cast members include Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, with Jasmin Savoy Brown and Sonia Ammar.
The trailer for 2022’s Scream is something of a masterpiece. Seeing old characters, particularly the main three (Sidney, Gale and Dewey) return will always be a nostalgia trip, but the way Ghostface is presented has a perfectly unique feel to it as a new evil lies under the mask.
This incredible trailer opens with a scene reminiscent of the 1996 opening, in which Casey (Drew Barrymore) answers the phone to the killer; an event that leads to her death.
In this upcoming feature, Tara (Jenna Ortega) is texting her friend, but soon becomes aware that the person replying isn’t who she thinks it is… After answering the phone, Tara battles with her phone in order to lock all the doors to her home – to no avail it seems.
This is such an amazing way to introduce the forthcoming Scream movie, as this scene obviously resembles the iconic opening from the 1996 film, but with a modern twist.
Since the killer is someone who seemingly admires the original Ghostface, it only makes sense that this modern version of such an iconic opening scene would be our introduction into a new world of horrors in Woodsboro town.
Sidney grew as a character rather quickly in the first film, and her strength is shown once again as she confronts Ghostface yet another time, seemingly in the same house she faced him in last time.
The release date for Scream isn’t far away, and fans are thrilled to be able to witness Sidney’s tenacity and Ghostface’s bloody rampage in the cinemas. After all, she’s “Sidney Prescott, of course I have a gun.”
Scream will be in cinemas on January 14th, 2022.
