The first book in Jeff Kinney’s bestselling series will be coming to Disney+ this December (2021); Kinney is one of the world’s bestselling authors, and his Diary of a Wimpy Kid books have sold more than 250 million copies globally in only 14 years.

Kinney serves as both screenwriter and producer for the film and said that “This film feels like the book come to life, and it’s exciting to see Greg Heffley and his family and friends in their fully-animated glory.

“It is the Wimpy World in a way no one has seen before.” Kinney continued, “Working on this movie, I feel like we have been sitting on a wonderful secret. I can’t wait to finally share it with the world!”

It seems that Kinney could not bee more excited to bring Greg Heffley to life, and see him on one of the world’s largest streaming services, and rightly so!

In the book, Greg is a lanky yet ambitious kid with a very active imagination and important plans to become rich and famous; but there’s only one problem: he has to get through middle school first.

As if school wasn’t hard enough, Greg’s best friend Rowley appears to be gliding through life and succeeding at everything he does, without even trying!

Details of his comical, and often tragic attempts to fit in flood the pages of his journal but, through it all, Greg learns to appreciate the people who care abut him, and finds the glory in standing up for what’s right.

The teaser poster gives very little away, as expected, but it dies give us a glimpse of the animation style the movie has adopted. We see Greg’s gigantic shoes, among other footwear that may belong to his classmates.

Children have been reading Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid series for over a decade, and the adoration for his work has led to a Disney+ feature film that the whole family will be able to enjoy together.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be directed by Swinton Scott (Futurama) and written by Kinney, and features the voices of Brady Noon (The Mighty Ducks), Ethan William Childress (Mixed-ish), and Chris Diamantopoulos (Mickey Mouse).

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is available to stream on Disney+ from December 3rd, 2021.
