Recently, Marvel Studios released a 2-minute-long featurette for Eternals, the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to grace the big screen.
With the main storyline for the MCU being more or less over when 2019’s Avengers: Endgame came about, fans have been more than curious to find out what’s next for the MCU.
September 2021 was home to the release of Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings, a movie that introduced a brand-new hero into the franchise. Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu, was welcomed and beloved by fans; this reception is a very good sign as it means that fans are now looking forward to meeting characters never-before-seen in the MCU.
Eternals will be releasing into cinemas this November (2021), and despite the first trailer for the movie not going down so well, the marketing revealed since has created mass excitement for the film, perhaps due to not only the visuals, but the stellar cast, too.
The cast for this upcoming feature stars Gemma Chan as human-loving Sersi, Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lia McHugh as the forever young Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as clever creator Phastos, and Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari.
Additionally, Eternals also includes Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, with Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena.
The movie is set to follow the new group of heroes from way beyond anywhere we know. They have kept the Earth safe for millions of years, but when beasts known as Deviants, thought to be lost to history, return, the Eternals must band together once again to save humanity – again.
Many fans wondered why the team hadn’t interfered when Thanos (Josh Brolin) wiped out half the universe, or even when Ultron (James Spader) raised a city so high that it’s impact could have wiped out the entire planet.
Marvel have explained this in the trailers through the characters; it seems as though the Eternals could do nothing because they were not permitted to – seemingly by orders of a Celestial.
The featurette sees actors like Hayek and Chan talk about why Eternals will not only be a stunning, entertaining movie, but also why it will be important. Both these actors and more discuss what the film means to them, and how excited they are for fans to witness the Eternals.
Chloé Zhao directs the film, and Kevin Feige and Nate Moore serve as producers, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Kevin de la Noy serving as executive producers. The screen story is by Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo; the screenplay is by Chloé Zhao, Patrick Burleigh, as well as Ryan and Kaz Firpo.
Eternals will be in cinemas on November 5th, 2021.
