Ian McKellen may be enjoying huge success with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies but he is set to return with Mr Holmes, which will see him take on the role of the aging detective.

The movie is set to receive its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival at the beginning of February and new Miramax and Roadside Attractions have revealed a terrific new image from the movie.

Mr Holmes is based on the novel by Mitch Cullins - which was inspired by the work of Arthur Conan Doyle - and sees Bill Condon back in the director's chair. Condon has been behind Kinsey, Dreamgirls, and The Twilight Sage: Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2, but this is his first film since The Fifth Estate.

Condon is also no stranger to working with McKellen and this is the first time that the director and actor have reunited since Gods and Monsters back in 1998. I have to say, I am very excited to see this iconic actor take on one of literature's greatest characters.

Gods and Monsters was a movie that earnt McKellen a Best Actor Oscar nomination, and it would be terrific to see him in the mix again this time next year. I am going to nail my colours to the mast now, and say that McKellen for the Best Actor Oscar 2016!!!!! Let's face it; it's about time that he bloody won one.

We have seen the likes of Robert Downey Jr and Benedict Cumberbatch play Holmes on both the big and small screen in recent years, but this looks set to be a brand new take on a character that we all love so much.

A terrific cast has been assembled for the film as Laura Linney, Roger Allan, Milo Parker, Hattie Morahan, Patrick Kennedy, and Hiroyuki Sanada will all star alongside McKellen.

A UK release date for Mr Holmes has yet to be announced.
