We are big fans of Jake Gyllenhaal here at FemaleFirst and he is set to return to the big screen this spring with his new film Demolition.
Gyllenhaal's performance in Demolition is already winning over the critics and I really cannot wait to see him in action once again. And it is the Oscar-nominated actor who dominates the new poster for the film.
The movie sees Jean-Marc Vallee in the director's chair, who has brought us movies such as Dallas Buyers Club and Wild in recent years. Demolition marks the first time that Gyllenhaal has teamed up with the filmmaker.
Gyllenhaal takes on the central role of Davis Mitchell as he stars alongside Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper and newcomer Judah Lewis. Demolition is the first film for Gyllenhaal since the success of Everest and kicks off another busy year for the in-demand actor.
Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions.
Davis' letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.
Demolition - and Gyllenhaal's central performance - has been whipping up the storm on the festival circuit since last year and I cannot wait to see what the actor and director deliver.
Demolition is released 29th April.
