Neill Blomkamp's Alien film has been put on hold.
Earlier this year it was announced that Blomkamp would be returning to the science fiction genre for a new Alien film. Now Ridley Scott is set to direct Prometheus 2, the former is being put on the back-burner.
Blomkamp took to Twitter to give fans an update on the status of his Alien project. He wrote: "alien is kinda holding/ pending prometheus 2. So I shall be working on other things... as much as I love the xeno- and Lt ripley."
While there was no word on where Blomkamp's film was going to fit into the Alien timeline, the early concept art did get fans excited as it featured Ellen Ripley and Corporal Hicks - played by Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn.
When filming was due to get underway for the Alien film is uncertain, but Blomkamp is not looking for an alternative film project.
Filming was set to get underway at some point next year but Blomkamp is now looking for a new project - presumably until the release of Prometheus 2.
Blomkamp has whipped up a storm in the last few years with his first three features, District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. District 9 marked his feature film directorial debut was a massive critical hit back in 2009 and went on be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
Prometheus 2, now called Alien: Paradise Lost, will see Scott back in the director's chair, while Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are set to reprise the roles of Elizabeth Shaw and Michael.
Alien: Paradise Lost has got a 30th May 2017 U.S. release date. No UK date for the film has yet been announced.
