Neil Jordan says it was the script that drew him to Byzantium.
Jordan is back in the director's chair this week as he helms the British vampire movie starring Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan.
And while Jordan is no stranger to this genre - having directed Interview With The Vampire - he was happy to return to the world of the vampire because of the script.
Speaking to Den of Geek the director said: "The script. Also, the fact that it was two female vampires who were a mother and daughter. That it had this kind of... [pauses] dirty realism to it.
"You could see them wandering around the South West Coast of England with their sleeping bags wondering ‘where do we hide out next’. It was that kind of thing. It was just a terribly attractive package in a way."
Byzantium is a big screen adaptation of the play of the same name by Moira Buffini and sees Jordan helm a movie for the first time since Ondine.
The movie sees him work with both Arterton and Ronan, who are playing mother and daughter, for the first time, while Caleb Landry Jones and Sam Riley are also on board.
Byzantium is released 31st May.
