The 33-year-old actress - who won an Academy Award in 2011 for her performance in the psychological horror film 'Black Swan' - is set to play the part of John F. Kennedy's wife in a new biopic from Chilean director Pablo Larrain.
The movie will follow the first four days in Jackie Kennedy's life after the assassination of her husband, which occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963.
Variety reports that the plotline will focus on Kennedy's courage in the face of personal turmoil, which won her admiration from Americans and people worldwide.
What's more, Darren Aronofsky - who directed 'Black Swan' - is set to serve as a producer on the new film.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Portman has held talks over starring in 'The Basis Of Sex'.
She is wanted to play the part of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a real life Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, who tirelessly campaigned for women's rights.
