Naomi Watts says Diana was a film that didn't go in the direction that she was hoping for.
Watts returned to the big screen last year to star as Princess Diana in the Oliver Hirschbiegel directed biopic.
The movie focused on the last few years of Diana's life and her relationship wit surgeon Hasnat Khan. However, the movie was mauled by the critics and was a box office flop.
Speaking to Harper's Bazaar magazine, the actress said: "I got seduced by the fantastic character. Diana did a lot of things that had positive and negative results. She was multifaceted.
"But ultimately there were problems [with the film] and it ended up taking a direction that was not the one I was hoping for.
"With risk there is every chance it's going to fail. If you have to go down with that sinking ship, so be it."
The movie struggled at the box office in the UK and the rest of Europe, and was a straight to DVD release in the U.S. as a result.
As for Watts, she will be back on the big screen this year with Birdman and St Vincent de Van Nuys. She has also completed work on While We're Young.
