Netflix, one of the world’s most popular streaming services, has a lot on its plate this year (2022). The platform holds movies such as The Adam Project and The Bubble, and will be adding another feature to its featured content.

My Father’s Dragon is an upcoming animation which has just unveiled its first-ever image.
The Netflix Original has a great cast behind it, including Jacob Tremblay, Judy Greer, Gaten Matarazzo, Golshifteh Farahani, Dianne Wiest, Rita Moreno, Chris O’Dowd, Alan Cumming, Yara Shahidi, Jackie Earle Haley, Mary Kay Place, Leighton Meester, Spence Moore II, Adam Brody, Charlyne Yi, Maggie Lincoln, Jack Smith with Whoopi Goldberg and Ian McShane.
The feature is also being helmed by Oscar-nominated Cartoon Salon co-founder, Nora Twomey, and is an adaptation of a children’s book of the same name by Ruth Stiles Gannett.
My Father’s Dragon follows a young boy named Elmer, who is having a rather hard time coping after he and his mother move to the city.
Frustrated and potentially a little afraid, Elmer runs away in order to seek Wild Island, and a young dragon who waits to be saved.
As the feature goes on, Elmer is greeted by fierce creatures and mysterious beasts as he travels through an island full of unknown wonder, and forges the friendship of a lifetime.
Director Twomey has stated that “Our actors, animators and artists at Cartoon Saloon have worked together to craft this film, inspired by Ruth Stiles Gannett’s amazing book. We were drawn together by a desire to tell a very special tale of friendship, adventure, and true bravery.
“I fell in love with storytelling as a child and Netflix excels at celebrating all kinds of stories, through different styles and distinct voices. This has given me the opportunity to look through a beautiful lens and I am excited to share what I see with our audience around the world.”
Children’s movies never seem to run out of ideas or inspiration, with films such as Turning Red and forthcoming film Lightyear in the works to keep both kids and families entertained this year.
There is no release date for My Father’s Dragon as of yet, but with the release of the adorable image, a trailer or more images may follow.
