This week, the official trailer for Peter Jackson’s big screen adaptation of Mortal Engines has been revealed, showcasing some of the action and chaos we should expect when Philip Reeve’s award-winning book series makes its first appearance in cinemas later this year. You can watch the brilliant teaser for the flick below:

The fantasy adventure looks set to be quite the visual feast, with a whole bunch of living towns and cities making their way through the world on wheels, or through the skies with wings. With dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) on the run, and Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) finding himself suddenly in a position to work by her side, the saying “opposites attract” is truly put to the test.

While their paths should never have crossed, the two will forge an unlikely alliance that could change the future forever.

Taking place thousands of years after a cataclysmic event nearly wiped out humanity as we know it, the world has adapted and evolved, with a new way of living at the forefront of society. This isn’t like anything we’ve ever seen before, but it’s certainly one of the most interesting premises ever put forward.

Christian Rivers serves as director on the film, with Jackson alongside him, and Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who have penned the screenplay.

Walsh and Jackson also serve as producers, alongside Zane Weiner, Amanda Walker, and Deborah Forte. Ken Kamins and Boyens also work as executive producers.

Mortal Engines comes to cinemas across the UK on December 14, 2018.
