Pine is set to take on the role of Steve Trevor in the first solo Wonder Woman film, which sees Patty Jenkins in the director's chair. This is the first time that Pine has worked with the filmmaker.

And Pine says that there has been a completely different approach to the film and the story by the female director.

Talking about the solo Wonder Woman film on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the actor said: "With men at the helm it's always a revenge cycle thing - we're gonna go get the bad guys and the bad guys are defeated...

"What I think is really lovely having a woman at the helm of something like this is there's a great deal more compassion and love at the centre of the story, which for something as big a film as this is going be, it's wonderful the little bit we can do to hopefully inch this universe towards something less aggressive."

Wonder Woman is only the second feature film from Jenkins and comes over a decade since she made her debut with Monster. She has been working in television with The Killing, Betrayal, and Entourage under her belt.

Wonder Woman will see Gal Gadot take on the title role and we will be introduced to this character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice later this year. The movie will mark the first collaboration between Gadot and Pine.

Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, David Thewlis, and Danny Huston are just some of the names on the cast list.

Filming on Wonder Woman is still underway and 2016 is set to be a very busy year for Pine. He will be back on the screen in The Finest Hours and Star Trek Beyond and he has also completed work on Comancheria.

Wonder Woman is released 23rd June 2017 in the U.S. - no UK release date has yet been announced.
