Sheen was one of the new additions to the cast list of this summer's Pixar film but reveals that he received a phone call saying that his character would no longer be part of the story.

Speaking to Magic Radio, the actor said: "I got a phone call saying I'm not in that (Finding Dory) anymore, they cut me out.

"Unbelievable. I was very sad, I was such a fan of Finding Nemo, but that's the way it goes, especially with animated films, you never know what's going to make it to the final cut.

"It's always a good thing to remember - you can always end up on the cutting room floor."

Finding Dory will reunite audiences with Dory, Marlin, and Nemo, characters that we met for the first time in the critical and commercial smash Finding Nemo. Finding Dory picks up after events of the first film and follows Dory as she sets off to find her long-lost mother and father.

Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks are back as Dory and Marlin, while Diane Keaton, Ed O'Neill, Eugene Levy and Hayden Rolence are some of the new names on board. Andrew Stanton teams up with Angus MacLane in the director's chair.

Stanton steered the first film to box office success and has also penned the screenplay this time around.

As for Sheen, we haven't seen him on the big screen since the release of Far From the Madding Crowd last year but he has completed work on Oppenheimer Strategies.

The actor will, once again, be lending his voice to the character of the White Rabbit in Alice Through The Looking Glass - the sequel to the 2010 film Alice In Wonderland.

Finding Dory is released 29th July.
